So given that Taiwan’s a pretty small island, the beach is never that far away. So just because we could, we decided to hop on the MRT and head to Danshui (æ·¡æ°´) (which is the last stop on the Danshui line, btw, so it’s not that short a ride).
Once we got to Danshui, we got on a bus and headed to the White Sands Beach (白沙ç£). It took us about 30min or so to get there. Lots of either high school students playing hooky or college students skipping class on the bus going to the beach.
Also, we accidentally interfered with a commercial shooting. PROTIP: Walk behind the camera, not in front of it.
Lots of parents with their photogenic toddlers. Multi-racial too, which makes me wonder if the white moms/kids live in Taiwan or was flown in for the commercial?
Made our way, barefooted across the beach until we hit these steps that went into the hills.
These steps eventually lead to the boardwalk/bike trail for the White Sands Beach.
…and then we kept walking. We made it through a small town and kept walking along the road until we hit a larger one where we could catch the bus back to the station.
…we walked a whole lot that day. My handy-dandy pedometer (Pokewalker) told me that we walked about 6 miles total (assuming a step is about a foot).
