2012: We’re (surprisingly) not dead.

Happy new year! It’s 2012, the year that Columbia Pictures predicted would be the end of the world.

Apocalypse Nanoha

How I imagine the world ending.

So what have I been up to in 2011?

  • Got a few things accepted into CSCW based on my work on GitHub (academia win)
  • Still pretty scrub, but I did get 3rd in Melty Blood at the SB:V side tourney (fighting game win… ish)
  • Centralized the fighting game community in Pittsburgh under the CMUken banner (fighting game community win)
  • Still slacking, but I’ve worked on a few (really) small side projects (hacking win… ish)
  • Interned at Google over the summer (internship win)
  • Still too heavy, but I lost some weight (P90X win)

Waver working it

Do your best... and forget the rest.

But enough about the past, what do I want to do this year?

There are the usual things again (lose more weight, save money, publish more, train harder, etc.), but I think this year I wanna do something… different.

I wanna make my life more interesting.

I’ll strive to do something new every week and report back. Some weeks might be small (new restaurant! listened to a new CD! etc.). Some weeks might be bigger (play with some framework, learn a new character or new fighting game). Some weeks might be bigger than that (start a side project) and take up multiple weeks. Most importantly, I don’t want to be in the same rut for two weeks in a row.

So we’ll see how this works out. Unless something bad happens (like laziness), I’ll attempt to update every week with something new or interesting that I’ve done. It might be insignificant, but that’s just how it goes. I’m hoping to increase the number of interesting things in my life, or at least, learn to appreciate the interesting things that already happen.

…at least until Columbia Pictures destroys us all.
