Inspired by Lucky Star, we made it our goal to visit a cake buffet at least once in Japan.
Well, we did it twice, once in Ueno and once in Ginza.
Both times was at this chain of cake buffets called Sweets Paradise.
Well, a cake buffet, as it sounds, is a buffet of delicious cake. Well, they have other stuff too, like 3 different kinds of pasta, salad, and curry rice.
They also have the requisite chocolate fountain and a fairly well-stocked drink corner. Lots of different kinds of tea and one of those automated coffee machines that serves cappuccinos, lattes, that kind of stuff. Not much soda though: Pepsi Next, Lemon CC, and melon soda (which is mutant green, btw).
Of course, more importantly, there are a lot of different cakes.
They even have toppings for the cakes, like different syrups and fruit. Different pudding-type stuff too, like coffee jelly, almond jelly, fruit jello, and flan.
As you’d probably expect from the massive sugar ups and the following downs, there were lots of kids just sprawled out on their tables after coming down from their sugar rushes. Unfortunately, their parents were always there, so it was hard to sneak a picture.
